Developing a raport at an early age can result in a long term relationship between their dentist and your child. This will help to ensure your child has a healthy mouth not only now but in the future, as it is shown that a long term preventative approach is better than intervention at a later stage. Brushing twice a day with a fluoride toothpaste along with a healthy diet is the basis for a healthy mouth.

– Keep sugary snacks to a minimum
– Eat fruit or cheese as a snack instead of sweet – if you eat sugary snacks then do so after a meal & avoid snacking to allow your mouth to recover from the acid attack
– Drink milk or water, not fizzy drinks
– Chew chewing gum after any sweets to help your mouth to recover

Childsmile is a national programme designed to increase childrens’ oral health.

We recommend registering your child as soon as possible after birth to allow preventative care from as young an age as possible. Also, this will get your child used to visiting us from a young age.

We have a dedicated, qualified childsmile nurse. She will provide you with all the information you & your child need from birth to 6 years old to help them maintain a healthy mouth.

Having seen your dentist for an examination, Kimberley will speak to you about diet & toothbrushing. If you have any questions then she is always more than happy to answer them.

Childsmile has been very successful at helping decrease the levels of dental decay in young children & we hope that this will continue.

Fluoride varnish Application

This is an important part of the Childsmile initiative. It is recommended that we coat your childrens teeth every 6 months to help prevent dental decay. The gel is simply painted on to the teeth & allowed to set. It helps to strengthen the enamel & decarese tooth decay. Some schools also provide this service.
